Before posting a question to the forums, we recommend that you search the forums to see if another member has asked a similar question. This eliminates the need to wait for a reply and can expediate the answering of your question. There are two types of searches that can be performed on the forums: simple or advanced. Beyond that, there are multiple content types on the forum that can be searched. These content types include forum posts, visitor messages, blog entries or blog comments. To determine which type of search you'd like to perform, please review the brief overview of each:

Simple Search

A simple search is the fastest way to search the forums. The simple search returns results from all content types based on the keywords you enter from the entire forum regardless of software, topic or date.

Advanced Search

An advanced search takes a few more steps to perform than a simple search, but you have many options to be able to narrow down the search to help ensure that your search returns results that are beneficial to you. For example, if you know your question is regarding modeling in Maya, you can narrow your search to only the "Maya Modeling" forum to ensure that your search won't return results from Softimage or 3ds Max users.

Using an advanced search, you can either search Multiple Content Types or a Single Content Type. A search done with Multiple Content Types can search multiple content types by keyword, username or date. A Single Content Type is searching only Posts is the most common Advanced Search feature as it gives you the ability to search not only by keyword, username or date but also to limit the search to specific forums.

Regardless of which search method you use, generally better results will be returned if you use keywords instead of typing your entire question. Here are a couple example questions that have been boiled down to their recommended keywords:

Question: I'm rendering with Final Gather and mental ray and it is crashing, how do I fix it? I'm using Maya.
Keywords: maya final gather mental ray render crash

Question: In 3ds Max, how do I merge together two vertices on my model?
Keywords: 3ds max merge vertices Question: How can I duplicate my rig symmetrically in Softimage?
Keywords: rig duplicate symmetry softimage
